I don't want to cut myself short on profits but I don't want to ';over charge'; clients since I am a new nail tech and still a little rough around the edges. I thought about matching my prices to those of the nail salons in Wal-Mart until I get more experience.I'm a new nail tech and I need help figuring out prices for my nail services...?
i created my prices the same way....check out the chop shops in your area (asians) as well as the high end salons and get your prices right in the middle....you're right you dont want to cut yourself short but you also dont want to knock your clients over the head either....so get somewhere in the middle...normally the asians charge 12-15 for a f/s and the higher ends charge 25-45 so your price could be between 20-22...but also keep in mind if you're buying your own products...if you're going to be a booth renter then there shouldnt be a problem but if you're doing commission or hourly then its up to the shop you're in to set the prices....if you would like check out my profile here and come on join my yahoo group....put in the reason you want to join that i answered your question on answersI'm a new nail tech and I need help figuring out prices for my nail services...?
ny nail lady charge $20 for a full set and $15 for a fill i think those r good prices
manis - 10$
pedis- 30$
waxes :
eyebrows-8
half legs - 15
whole legs-30
half arm- 10
whole arm- 20
bikini- 25
brazillian-45
... ect.
I think that's a good idea. What about offering them a punch card of some kind, with a freebie, like for instance after 5 full sets and /or 10 fills they get one full set free, or maybe a free airbrush or jewels if they bring in another person, or something along that line. Just to get a regular clientele built up. And giving nice hand massage %26amp; a compliment will make them feel all warm and fuzzy towards you, more likely to come back than a ';fast food'; type nail job where they are treated like cattle, get 'em in %26amp; out and never look 'em in the eye. Good luck and enjoy your career.
seems you have the answer. find what people are charging as wal-mart, the little shops in outlet malls, even at hair salons. you can be from 50 cents to 2 dollars cheaper. you have to make that call. make sure you cost of materials is getting paid. make sure you make enough for your time and labor. you want repeat customers do not rush to get them out fast. do quality work not quantity. you want a good reputation. i do it for my painting company and it has worked keeping me living for the past 4 years. at first it was hard to adjust. we have ups and downs. do it right you will last. you can fly with it or end up crashing. provide a happy calm environment. make them want to come back and be anxious to return. you want them to walk out and be amazed with how great you were. keep clean equipment and work station. see if i were in to what you do. i would find a way to buy nail polish products in a small bulk order. make small gift for the customer with like nail polish, foot file, sample product such as lotion or foot wash. something like that. and just stand the 3 items up and wrap with fabric and tie with fabric string. i would not give to the customers getting a basic this would go to the ones that pay for the works and pay good money. you want them to come back. make sure you get stuff in light neutral tones. it does not have to be just nail polish it can be small bottles of wash, cream, and foot file. something like that. well i can go on with more ideas but i am sure you can figure out what will help keep the customers coming for your service and paying good and returning all the time. good luck

You should go around and look at prices of competing nail salons in your area of business.

What you girls dislikes most about nail salons, the tech, atmoshpere, or just services.?
I running a salon, and would like to get a general feel of you ladies dislike about nail salonsWhat you girls dislikes most about nail salons, the tech, atmoshpere, or just services.?
i wish the people that worked there were more talkative. and not to sound rude, but 90 % of nail salons have lttle asian girls working there that barely speak english. and i think this is really wrong
and when they talk on hte phone, or yell at each other in another language. its annoying cause their not conentrating.
i liek a cozy, warm, friendly enviroment. lots of magazines, music and talkative people.
hope; this helpsssssWhat you girls dislikes most about nail salons, the tech, atmoshpere, or just services.?
I would say the smell, although sometimes that is unavoidable, and I don't like when I am getting my nails done and the esthetician is talking to a co-worker or on the phone!
The smells are soo strong. I feel like I'm being poisoned every time I go in one.
I don't like when the nail technicians talk in Korean.
I think the stylists should be happier and make small talk.
That would be nice.
The smell and noises.

Our dog needs it's nails cut. Does petco or petsmart offer nail cutting services?
Or do I need to take it to a vet o.o?Our dog needs it's nails cut. Does petco or petsmart offer nail cutting services?
Petsmart does nails and ears for $13. You can't have them do just nails though it's a package deal. Our dog needs it's nails cut. Does petco or petsmart offer nail cutting services?
For me I have to take my 160 lb. neo-mastiff (Thunder) to the vet. He is a big loveable teddy bear but does not let anyone mess with his paws. The vet gives him a ';cocktail'; that last about 20 minutes and he is fine, he gets his nails trimmed and he is ready to go get a burger at Burger King drive through. It has become a ritual.
Mike
I would ask your vet if he can cut the nails and how much he charges. You can call either Petco or Petsmart to find out what services they offer and the cost of each.
Ours does...my neighboor took her dog there...she was hit on the head by one of the groomers while my neighboor watched ;)
I take mine to the vet, or you can learn to do it yourself.
you can just drive it up to petco, they'll do it for you :)
they might even polish the dog's nails with nail polish :D
Just call a groomer...the one that does my Great Danes only charges $4. Petco and Petsmart are going to charge you more.
any petshop with a grooming station should clip nails. just phone and ask
I know petsmart does for sure.

In a nail spa, what atmosphere and services will make you want to return for future services?
Thinking of opening a nail spa, but I want to keep it simple but make sure that the customers come back for more. What do you like about your current nail place? What do you hate about your current nail place? In a nail spa, what atmosphere and services will make you want to return for future services?
When the girl that doing your nails or toes doesn't talk crap about you in their language. I want to go to an American owned salon, but there aren't any in my area. I would mind paying $10 more to go to your shop if you still did good work, and your technicians were polite. I also hate how they make appointments and then don't honor them.In a nail spa, what atmosphere and services will make you want to return for future services?
I like that there is music playing and that there is a large selection of nail colors so I can do something different everytime. I like that mine doesn't smell strongly like chemicals, it's only faint in the air. I like that the people are incredibly friendly without needing to have a conversation. I don't like that it's tacky. I've been to nail places where the foot massager is literally a $20 Homedics at home one and that turned me right off. I like the leather massage chairs that my place has and I like that the chairs that you sit on to get manicures and pedicures are soft and cushy as well. I also like when a large variety of services are offered like waxing, nails, you could even have an electrolysis rent a space and generate so business that way. Another thing I don't like are the appliances. I think that a nail salon should be sleek and crisp and clean no matter how old it may be. That means stainless steals and crisp counter tops, not gauche peeling gold and cheep plastic counters. I think that you can have a beautiful soothing salon on a small budget even. You just need the right places to look for things. It can be clean and safe and sanitary and still be bautiful with water fountains and a selection of glossy magazines. I hope yo do it, that sounds like a lot of fun.
Make sure the setting has a luxurious feeling to it. When women go for Manicures and Pedicures, etc. We want to feel pampered. Comfy chairs, LOTS of good magazines, clean restrooms, Those massaging chairs for Pedicures, Nice artwork on the wall (not the tacky pics of french manicured nails w/ the hand holding an ice cream cone). Good back ground music, and a friendly staff that remembers your name. All of these things embody my local nail salon and it keeps me coming back for more! I also highly recommend them to anyone who asks.
Also, make sure that the employees don't ask if the person wants a lip wax or an eyebrow wax. Some lady asked me that once while I was getting a pedicure and I felt very offended. If we want any of those services we'll ask.
The salon i go to is awesome they have a fen shui style and it is so relaxing it also smells great. and a big smile and great sense of humor. good luck .
hygienic tools, clean surroundings, good smelling, gentle hands, courteous and friendly staff but not too friendly that they invade your time to relax. a comfy chair that you can sit in for 3 hours w/o getting your but numb or hurting your back. relaxed interiors, calming colors. a wide selection of nail colors and services is also important.
the place i go to has a relaxing atmosphere and sterile tools. even if you get a basic pedicure they wash your feet in warm water which is great and hygienic too. the chairs are comfy and the lighting is sufficient but not too bright to disturb your calmness. i love the fact that they give you a massage with the customary pedicure. they often wrestle with my cuticles and ingrown nails which are painful and sometimes bleed. they offer acrylics, press ons and nail art, massages, nail repair, nail treatments, callus treatments, parafin waxing... what i don't like is that you have to pay extra for a non-OPI color. the colors that i like are not in OPI's line so instead of paying extra i bring my own polish.
well at mine they perm the haris on my toes.

What are the different services offered at nail salons?
I know about your standard manicure, pedicure, fills, acrylics. But what are gels, and the different types of wraps, and anything else that can be done to your nails? What are the different services offered at nail salons?
Hi there
Gel is still acrylic, but is applied in a slightly different way. Acrylic L%26amp;P hardens as it is applied. Gel needs to be 'cured' under a UV lamp to harden it but essentially they are the same thing.
Wraps are acrylic silk wraps where they prepare your nail and apply a small piece of silk wrap directly to your nail then apply acrylic over the top. This isn't a common way to do acrylic anymore although I believe there are still Nail Techs who offer this service.
Minx Nail Armour is a fantastic way to glam up your nails but is relatively new and I think I am the only person in my town who offers these. They have been worn by Beyonce and the like and come in a range of patterns and colors.
Minx is a type of foil covering which is applied directly to either your natural nail, or enhancements if you have them, then warmed up under a heat lamp to make them stay. They can last for weeks but last longer on toes.
You can have your nails piereced too, although I don't do this as it's not commonly asked for.estee lauder

do you knwo of anyplace in the Us that offers a course for a nail tech certificate in 2 or 3 days?
i saw that there is one in the UK but i cant seem to find one in the US
THanksWould i ahve to be licensed by my state to perform nail services?
You need to check with your state's board that licenses beauticians, cosmetologists, and estheticians. Your question doesn't tell us where you are, so it's a little difficult to give you an answer that is accurate for your state.Would i ahve to be licensed by my state to perform nail services?
I own a salon and spa and to professional be a nail tech you need to go to school (beauty school) and get a license. If your just doing your friends or whatever its a different story. Hope this helps!
