Has anybody working in food service ever been told to cut their nails totally short, or had someone cut them?

It is a common sanitary practice and in most cases a requirement to have short nails working in food service or food processing...along with hair and beard nets, frequent hand washing, no jewelry or gum chewing.

There are Health Dept., USDA and USDC standards to be met or the business can be ';written up.';Has anybody working in food service ever been told to cut their nails totally short, or had someone cut them?
It depends on what you mean by short. This is a safety and sanitation issue. Safety on two levels, first nails can chip and get into food, or they can break off into the skin causing bleeding, not sanitary and hurts like he**. Short nails are easier to keep clean.Has anybody working in food service ever been told to cut their nails totally short, or had someone cut them?
No because you should know if you work in a restaurant that your nails should be short anyways.
Yes, they can ask you to cut your nails. Though I thought that most kitchens work with gloves on now. I believe that is a rule in the restaurant biz now.
yes.
